Bilthoven, 9 mei 2021

Dear Mr. Heinz Klippert,

Excuse me for writing in English; please answer in German. I am Hugo von Meijenfeldt, researching the history of my family in the Baltics (Pommern, Schweden, Livland).

My greatgrandfather Carl von Meijenfeldt (1815-1899) was married to Petronella Wilhelmina Diederich, * Rotterdam 1823, † Amsterdam 1895. Her father was Evert Diederich 1783-1867 and her grandfather Hendrik/Henrich 1744-1800, who – according to his wedding papers – came from Holzburg, Hessen.

You have published about many Dieterichs from Holzburg, of whom I can trace in Andreas’ line Johann Heinrich 1741-1833 and Johann Jost 1757-1826 to Rotterdam. I can give you many details of their marriages and children. I cannot find my ancestor. Your source is FB Holzburg. Is there any possibility for me to study this source and if not, could you help finding my ancestor there?

Thank you in advance for any trouble taken.
Kind regards,
Hugo von Meijenfeldt

Dear Mr. Von Meijenfeldt,

Don’t worry about English/Deutsch, I will answer in English.

First, ‘FB Holzburg’ is a book published by Karl-Heinz Merle (in Schwlmstadt-Wiera) in 2011 and its titled ‘Familienbuch der Einwohner aus Holzburg und Fischbach 1604-2010’. The book is not available any more. but I can give you some help, it would be more comfortable to chat with you, using my email adress ‘heinz@klipp-ert.de’.

I think your grandfather Henrich is

Johann Henrich Dieterich, *04.11.1744 in Holzburg (1.Kind der Eltern), ~06.11.1744 ebd. Pate: des Vaters lediger Bruder Johann Henrich

His parents were:

Johannes Dieterich, *17.07.1714 in Holzburg, ~18.07.1714 ebd., +20.02,1791 in Holzburg Nr. 10

Anna Catharina Lauer, *22.09.1721 in Schrecksbach, ~22.09.1721 ebd., + 02.04.1765 in Holzburg

Heirat: 13.02.1744 in Schrecksback oder Holzburg

6. Kind war Johann Jost Dieterich, *22.02.1757 in Holzburg, ~01.03.1757 ebd., + 16.11.1832 in Holzburg Nr.10, he was married in Holzburg.

The father of Johannes Dieterich was Andreas Dieterich (1689-1743).

Kind regards,
Heinz Klippert

Dear Heinz Klippert,
Thank you very much for your quick response and your invitation to continue our conversation in English through e-mail. Although I learned German at school and am still able to understand and speak it, I am afraid my writing skills are below sea level.
You have indeed linked my greatgrandmother Petronella Wilhelmina Diederich to the Dieterich family in Holzburg. Out of your data I conclude that Johann Henrich’s (*1744) father Johannes (*1714) was a son from the first marriage of Andreas (*1689) with Maria Kister (*1690). The Johann Heinrich (*17-02-1741) and Johann Jost (*15-09-1757) I found marrying and dying in Rotterdam were a son and a grandson respectively from the second marriage, with Amalie Dirlam (*1705). Do you agree?
If I summarize your and my data I come to the following straight line from my greatgrandmother upwards:
IV. Petronella Wilhelmina Diederich, * Rotterdam 08-08-1823, † Amsterdam 01-09-1895, x Rotterdam 21-05-1845
Carl von Meijenfeldt,  * Rotterdam 13-04-1815, † Amsterdam 12-02-1899, naval carpenter, son of Johan August von Meijenfeldt & Catharina Margaretha Pieploo.
V. Evert Diederich, * Rotterdam 13-11-1783, † Rotterdam 17-05-1867, x1 Rotterdam 03-06-1812
Engeltje Wiltschut,* Rotterdam 23-09-1783, Rotterdam 12-11-1834, daughter of Pieter Wiltschut & Catrina van Zeventer.
VI. Johann Henrich Dieterich, * Holzburg 04-11-1744, † Rotterdam 23-11-1800, x Rotterdam 11-11-1770
(Joh)Anna Sophia de Koning, * Leiden 16-10-1743, + Rotterdam 04-08-1789, daughter of Evert de Koning & Cornelia van den Bos.
VII. Johannes Dieterich, * Holzburg 17-07-1714, † Holzburg 20-02-1791, x Schrecksbach or Holzburg 13-02-1744
Anna Catharina Lauer* Schrecksbach 22-09-1721, † Holzburg 02-04-1765, daughter of […] Lauer & […].
VIII. Andreas Dieterich, * Holzburg 11-1689, † Holzburg 21-03-1743, ≡ Hzb 23-07-1743, x1 Holzburg 07-11-1713
Maria Kister, * 1690, † Holzburg 20-04-1727, daughter of […] Kister & […].
IX. Nikolaus Dieterich, * Wasenberg 1655, † Holzburg 15-02-1710, x Holzburg 14-01-1686
Catharine Strempel, * Holzburg 18-12-1657, † Holzburg 10-05-1722, daughter of Andreas Strempel & Anna Amalia Rod.
X. [question mark]: Johannes Dieterich, * Wasenberg 1628, x Holzburg 1651 Gehla Hasenpflug, * Wasenberg 03-1623,  † Holzburg 17-11-1667, daughter of […] Hasenpflug & […].
With this my Diederich ancestors go back three generations further than before and in case you confirm my question mark under X even four generations.
When you’re interested we could include the full Rotterdam lineage of Johann Henrich (Hendrik), Johann Heinrich (Jan Hendrik) and Johann Jost (Johan Joost) in your Geneanet pages, although I can see the name Dieterich is not in your shortlist of names.
Best regards,
Hugo

Hello Hugo,
I was in contact with Karl-Heinz Merle and we confirmed the Dieterich
family in Holzburg as in the att. and more informative in my geneanet
Best regards
Heinz

Dear Heinz,
Thank you very much for your contact with Karl-Heinz Merle and the attachment and addition in Geneanet, to confirm my assumption that Nikolaus was a son of Johannes.
Do you also confirm that Johannes 1714-1791 – the father of Johann Henrich 1744-1800 – was the oldest son in Andreas’ first marriage with Maria Kister? I’m  asking this, because there are zero children there on your Geneanet page (still).
In that case the lineage of my greatgrandmother will be clear.
Cheers,
Hugo

Dear Hugo,
Following answers to your questions:
Johannes D. (1714-1791) was the eldest son of Andreas D with his first
wife Maria Kister. Next Children of Andreas and Maria were Anna
Catharina (1717-1781), Anna Catharina (1721- ..), Johann Henrich, a
linen weaver, (1724-1766) and Maria Elisabeth (1727-1727).
Johann Henrich D. *17.02.1741 was the youngest son of Andreas D. and
Amalie Dirlam, a stepbrother to Johannes D. (*1714),
and  Johann Jost D. (*15.09-1757) is the eldest son of Johannes D.
(1733-1814) with Maria Catharina Bock. Johannes is the 2nd child of
Andreas D. and Amalie Dirlam. Indeed Johann Jost is a grandson of
Andreas D. and a nephew to Johannes D. (*1714).
The shortlist of names is generated by geneanet software, I think it
depends on the frequency of the family names (FN Dieterich is at the
moment related to 59 persons).
I am interested in the full Rotterdam lineage (3 generations) of
Hendrik, Jan Hendrik and Johan Joost.
Best regards
Heinz

Dear – or lieber, if I may -Heinz,
Again many thanks for all the information about the Dieterich family.
Good to know that Andreas Dieterich and Maria Kister had five children. What puzzles me is that Anna Catharina (1717-1781) was alive while a younger daughter was called Anna Catharina as well. Normally it is the other way around: the younger daughter gets the same names because the older daughter has died. Their son Johannes (1714-1791) and his wife Lauer had Johann Henrich (1744-1800) as their child; were there perhaps more children and descendents?
Other Dieterich families in Siegen, Neuwied, Bas-Rhin, etc. lived there for many generations. They have no relation to the Schwalm-Eder-Kreis family, as far as I can see. The only exception is my family in Rotterdam and perhaps one branch in the USA.
Please find my attachment in which I have integrated your Holzburg data and my Rotterdam data. As fas as I can see the family name in the Netherlands died out. I’m in contact with researcher Mr. Slot to give me 100% certainty. In the youngest generations I have only included years (not dates and places) and no parents. All Rotterdam data are coming from records in the Stadsarchief Rotterdam. These records are being made better accessable thanks to scanning.
I hope you don’t mind my attachment is not in the Geneanet lay-out. The biggest difference is the use of numbers for the generations and the link to the children. I highlighted the three relatives from Holzburg to Rotterdam in yellow. I did not include another Johan Hendrik Diederich from Hessen-Darmstadt, who announced his wedding on 03-06-1779 in Rotterdam to Barbera Boelier (Boulier/Bulier). She was born close to Breda and died there 1824.
All the best,
Hugo

Dear Heinz,
Excuse me for sending you an e-mail for the second time in one day. It is weekend and rainy.
I noticed you already made a start with the additions: the other Lauer children and the link to Rotterdam with Anna Sophia de Koning and Evert Diederich. By the way, Evert was a tobacco shop keeper there.
After their marriage in 1845 Carl von Meijenfeldt came to live in the house of Evert, his second wife and a few children. Carl took with him his widow-mother Catharina Margaretha Pieplow, his single brother Johann August and sister Engelina. Two years later, as soon as Petronella Wilhelmina (Nel) Diederich had her first children, they moved to a house further in the street. Today I discovered someone else made a page on Geneanet with the photos of Carl and Nel from my website. If you like you could use them too.
Cheers,
Hugo
