Dear Madam/Sir,

Excuse me for writing in the English language. You could respond to me in Danish, if you wish.

I am Hugo von Meijenfeldt from the Netherlands. My ancestors of the Meijerfeldt family lived in Gammal Køge. In 1724 the family acquired it through marriage in the Ascheberg-Barnekow family. In 1775 the family sold it to the Carlsen-Lange family.

My question to you is if your archive holds any information about the estate in that period.

Thank you in advance for the trouble taken,

kind regards,
Hugo von Meijenfeldt

Dear Hugo von Meijerfeldt

Thank you very much for Your inquiry into the history of Gammelkjøgegaard in Køge.

You may know the website www.gammelkjoegegaard.dk where You can find further information about Gammelkjøgegaard today.

This material briefly descripes Gammelkjøgegaard and the surroundings

http://www.skovognatur.dk/NR/rdonlyres/3B40DB1E-FD69-41D3-8AA4-DE8195AB6822/77853/KGESTI3.pdf

Køge Byhistoriske Arkiv holds the entire archive of Gammelkjøgegaard, with the oldest parts dating back to late 1500.

On this website (which seems to be on a temporary server right now, but usually found on www.danpa.dk) you can see our registry of Gammelkjøgegaard (in danish).

All this material is in our archive, but none of it is digital or available online.

The names Ascheberg and Barnekow appears a few times.

But apart from this we do not have any other material on the family.

A few years ago a book about Gammelkjøge was published by Niels Peter Stilling. He was commissioned to write the book by Gammelkjøgegaard.

This book will probably be of great interest to you.

Unfortunately it does not seem to be available through internet bookshops, but you can get it through our local bookshop:

Køge Boglade, Brogade 15, 4600 Køge – Phone 5664 1001 – They have no website.

Or You can try this one, I think they store it as well: http://www.arnoldbusck.dk/butikker/sjaelland/koege/

If you should ever come to Køge, you are very welcome to visit our archive.

Please write in advance, as all materials regarding Gammelkjøgegaard is deposited outside our archivebuilding, but we can have it ready for use if you write a day in advance.

Best wishes from/

Dear Lars Kjær,

Thank you very much for your quick and thorough response.

The history in the website www.gammelkjoegegaard.dk starts more or less with the Carlsen family, who bought the estate from my ancestors. That was the reason why I turned to your archive.

The page on the www.danpa.dk site is excellent. Under Nr. 27/3 and 4 I read the following:

27/3    1787 – 1803    E  Vejen over Køge Lyng.
Anm: Meget medtaget. 1 Papirer vedr. Gl. Kjøgegaards overgang fra familien Meyerfeldt til familien Carlsen:
27/4    1769 – 1769    P  Papirer vedr. familen Meyerfeldt.

This is reason enough to visit your archive. I will be in Copenhagen on Monday and Tuesday, but will return in the week of 14-18 December for the big climate conference. Since I’m leading the Dutch delegation, I suppose I will not have time to drive to Køge. Therefore I will make a separate plan and announce it to you in time. I will buy the book as well.

Kind regards,
Hugo von Meijenfeldt

Dear Hugo von Meijenfeldt

These papers seems to be of interest for you:

Papirer vedr. Gl. Kjøgegaards overgang fra familien Meyerfeldt til familien Carlsen:
27/4    1769 – 1769    P  Papirer vedr. familen Meyerfeldt.

I have taken a look and taken a few photographs af the papers, just to let you know what kind of material we hold. I am guessing we have about 100-150 pages in all in 27/3, some written on both sides.

The picture: “27-3 Papers regarding Meyerfeldt Family” shows the extend of the material, sorry it got a litte blurred.

The pics 1-5 shows how we´’ve categorized the papers. (Hopefully you can read the danish descriptions on the front?)

The 7 pictures “photographs from 1 – papirer vedr. familien Meyerfeldt 1” to “photographs from 1 – papirer vedr. familien Meyerfeldt 7”
shows all the papers from 1.jpg: “Papirer vedr. familien Meyerfeldt 1769”.

I resized all the photos in photoshop so they will get through email. hopefully you still can read the text though.

Best regards from Lars Kjær

Dear Lars,

Thank you very very much for all the trouble taken. I can clearly read the documents through the pictures you took. I will take the time to study them. They seem relevant to me, because they refer to the distribution of family estates outside Sweden (in Germany and in Denmark) between the widow Brita Barnekow and her sons Carl Friedrich and Johan August Meijerfeldt. I will definitely try to visit you next year.

Kind regards,
Hugo
