I have received your e-mail address from my nephew Hugo von Meijenfeldt. We are from Holland. In our holiday we travel through Sweden from 22 July / 31 July. In Sweden we like to visit with our children (16 and 18) several locations associated with our family history.
Hugo told us about the paintings of our forefathers on the estate Rosendal. We would really appreciate if we can visit Rosendal to view these paintings.
Can you tell us if this is possible? We understood from Hugo that you live in Stockholm, but perhaps there is someone else in the estate available. We can plan our itinerary flexible.

Thank you for your e-mail. Since I last was in contact with Hugo the situation at Rosendal has changed. The estate itself including the castle will remain in the family (my two younger brothers are taking over) but most of the furniture, paintings, etc will be sold at auction on the 9th of August. The auction is organized by Helsingborgs Auktionsverk (www.hav.se). Viewings for the public start on 23rd of June – admission to the viewing is by buying the catalogue, SEK 200:- . The time schedule for the viewings as well as the catalogue are available on the website.

Ha Ingmar,
Op je wenken bediend. Die catalogus van € 20 lijkt me belangrijk, want daarin kunnen we nagaan welke familiestukken er zijn. Margareta heeft mij ooit geschreven dat er maar één schilderij met Johan August Meijerfeldt sr is, met wapenrusting en gele mantel, staand, hoofd naar rechts, 152,5 x 114 cm, olieverf op canvas, zoals afgebeeld op de website. Afgezien van de onmogelijkheid naar de veiling te gaan, vraag ik mij ook af of dit schilderij niet beter in een Zweeds museum dan in Nederlands familiehuis thuishoort, nog los van de vraag of iemand van ons er geld in wil steken. Ik zie dat jullie je via de website wel even moeten aanmelden voor het bezoek.

Beste Ingmar,
Meer haast heeft een serieus bod op het schilderij van Johan August voordat de veiling op 9 augustus plaatsvindt. Het huidige vierde bod ligt op 13.000 SEK = 1.411,45 EUR x 22,5% provisie = 1.668,27 EUR, exclusief verzendkosten. Dit is op zich nog een overzichtelijk bedrag als we allemaal een duit in het zak je doen.
Na enig zoekwerk kom ik tot de conclusie dat het woord “utrop” bij het bedrag 60.000-80.000 SEK inderdaad duidt op de laagst aanvaardbare verkoopprijs op de veiling. Dan komen we op 4x hogere kosten. Wij kwamen al tot de conclusie dat dit ons boven het hoofd groeit, maar ik zou wel actief willen blijven volgen wat er gebeurt als het schilderij van de veiling wordt gehaald en bijvoorbeeld in bruikleen aan een museum wordt gegeven. Ik zal Margareta daar eens over aanschrijven.

I am Ingmar von Meijenfeldt from Holland. Johan August Meijerfeldt is the founder of our family. His painting was sold on the auktion.
In Holland we have a famliy archive with everything of the past and present of our family. (www.meijenfeldt.nl and www.facebook.com/groups/135324049945809/)
We knew that the painting was in Rosendal, thanks to Margareta Lilliehöök. And we have been in July to Rosendal to see it.
Now it is sold we would like to know where it went.
Can you tell us that or is that privat. So it is, can you send this mail to the new owner and ask them if they are willing to tell us?

Thank you for informing the Dutch von Meijenfeldt family through Helsingsborgs Auktionsverk about the destination of the painting of Johan August Meijerfeldt sr. We are delighted it will stay at Rosendal. The Bennets have been owning this painting since 1817, when countess Lovisa Augusta Meijerfeldt-Sparre died. I will do some research into the testament and inventory whether the identity of the painter can be found.

Zie onderstaande e-mail aan Johan Bennet. Het is een beleefdheidsmail om in contact te blijven. Ik ga nog verder in het testament en de zogenaamde bouppteckningnar kijken of het schilderij genoemd staat en zo ja, de naam van de schilder. Hou jij in de gaten of je nog een mooiere afdruk van de foto krijgt? Auktionsverk reageert daar in de mail aan jou niet op.
