Dear Madam/Sir,

My ancestors count Johan August Meijerfeldt sr (1664-1749) and his son count Johan August Meijerfeldt jr (1725-1800) have been important people in Swedish history. I have donated the book I wrote about them to your library a long time ago. Further information can be found on my website www.meijenfeldt.nl. Both are in the Dutch language.

Father and son wrote memoires:
– According to C. Hallendorf “Karl XII och Lewenhaupt år 1708”, UUA 1902:3, page 141-142 and H. Villius, “Karl XII:s ryska fälttåg”, Källstudier, Lund 1951, page 126-128, the report of M. sr starts mid 1705 and ends in the 1730-ies. The first part ought to be found in the Engeströmska Samlungen in your library and the second Pomeranian period somewhere in the Riksarkivet.
– J. Mankell, “Anteckningar rördande Finska Arméens och Finlands Krigshistoria, särskildt med afseende på krigen emellan Sverige och Ryssland åren 1788-1790 samt 1808-1809”, Stockholm 1870, part 1, mentions Mejerfelts Journal and Mejerfelts Passage Journal för åren 1788, 1789 och 1790 as a source, either in your library or the Krigsarkivet.

My question to you is whether or not this information is still correct and what actions I can undertake to receive a scanned copy of the reports and journals.

Thank you in advance for you information,
Hugo von Meijenfeldt

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your mail. The answer is, though, a little bit of a disappointment for you as far as Kungliga Biblioteket is concerned.
Here you find only a minor collection of letters spread across four collections. The most relevant seems to be the letters in the Engeström-collection (Engestr. B.VII.1.1.). According to the catalogue in the manuscript department, these letters have been described as Meijerfeldt’s ”memoirs”.

With regard to the other materials concerning your ancestors, you have to contact the Riksarkivet (The National Archives of Sweden) and the Krigsarkivet, which is part of Riksarkivet.

Best regards,
Dr. Wolfgang Undorf

Dear Dr. Wolfgang Undorf,

Thank you very much for your very quick response to my e-mail. I will continue my research in the Riksarkivet.

Engestr. B.VII.1.1 is according to Hans Villius (1951) indeed the place where I can find the memoirs of count Meijerfeldt. As part of my visit to Stockholm in August 2020 I am planning to visit your library (again). Is it possible to send in a request before I arrive to have a look at the papers myself and order the pages to be scanned?

All the best,
Hugo G. von Meijenfeldt
