Dear Steffan Völkel,

This evening I ordered through E-Bay the original copperplate print of the Meyerfelt coat of arms anno 1750 (KN 23158).

As you may conclude from my family name I am an descendant from this noble family. The spelling Meijerfeldt was often used in Sweden. Earlier I bought 20 years older different original copperplates from your colleagues in Germany. I framed them, hanged them up and published them on my website: http://meijenfeldt.nl/?page_id=701.

Do you have any idea how the original came into your possession?
Thanks in advance.

Dear Steffan Völkel,

Excuse me to come back to you again.
I did some research into the origins of the picture. Because the name is spelled in the Swedish way – Meijerfelt, with dots on the y – I started looking in Swedish heraldy books. There I found it in P. Carlskiöld, “Svea Rikes Ridderskaps och Adels Vapen-bok”, Stockholm 1764, Grefvar page 3. The only difference I can see is a cross after the name, meaning that this family died out in Sweden. It could therefore be possible that your print is not around 1750 but at the earliest 1764. The engravers are Eric Geringius (1707-1747) and Carl Eric Bergquist (1711-1781).
I am still curious how you got it in your collection and if you have any other books of pictures related to the Meyerfelt family.
Best regards,
Hugo G. von Meijenfeldt

dear mr. meijenfeldt,

we are dealers with antiquarian books and graphics, so we buy lots of items, mostly from household clearances. This engraving certainly comes from one of these clearances.

best regards
