Dear Madam/Sir,
In your decision of 20 Juni 2013 – almost 10 years ago – ansökningsnummer N-2013-0420, you denied a request for name change to Meyerfeldt, because the extinct Swedish family Meijerfeldt (even in the spelling Meyerfeldt) is broadly known.
Let me in the first place state that I support your decision strongly. Secondly, for possible future requests, I would like to reveal to you that the Swedish family is not 100% extinct. The last count Johan August Meijerfeldt (1725-1800) had at least two natural children who used his name. One of them was born in Stralsund in 1760, left Pommern in 1780 and arrived in Amsterdam in 1793. He called himself Johan August von Meijenfeldt. The “n” was a spelling error of the clerk, but could not be corrected because of the introduction of the Napoleontic civil code. This person is the grandfather of my grandfather.
Could you inform me about the identity of the applicant and her/his reasoning?

I have ordered the name file in question from our archives and will receive it on Monday.
Regarding your question of reasoning, do you mean the reason for wanting to change the name, the reasoning they provided when we rejected their application or all their provided documentation?
For future reference – Since July 1 2017 PRV does not carry out personal name changes. This is instead solely done by the Swedish Tax Authority (Skatteverket). PRV does however still have our old archives up until July of 2017.

Thank you very much for your clear and quick response.
With the word ”reasoning” I indeed meant the motivation for everything: what was the old name, why change it, why Meyerfeldt (and Meijerberg), etc. Perhaps it is easier to make a copy of their request.
Would it be wise to inform the Skatteverket also that the name Meijenfeldt is still alive in the Netherlands?

Dear Anna Meijerberg,
Excuse me for writing in the English language and using your business e-mail address in a private matter.
Let me first introduce myself. I am a descendant of the last Swedish count Meijerfeldt. His natural son arrived in Amsterdam in 1793. Overthere a small spelling error was made in his name.
If I am not mistaken I saw in public records that your family ten years ago applied for the name Meijerberg or else Meyerfeldt. I am not asking for the reasons you wanted to change your name, but perhaps you are willing to share why you picked out the name Meyerfeldt: because it ceased to exist in Sweden in the year 1817, because you just thought it was a beautiful name, or something else?
My interest is nothing more than to share this anecdote on my website regarding the history of my family. I respect your privacy and will therefore not use your personal data.
