Dear Mr. Harlinghausen,

Excuse me for writing in the English language. My written German would contain too many mistakes. Please feel free to respond to me in German.

On Internet I found the following portrait in your collection:

Johann August von Meyerfeldt

1713 Graf von Nehringen. Schwed. Militär u. Staatsmann.

This person is my ancestor. In a book I wrote about my Swedish family I have included a photocopy of the abovementioned picture. This explains my interest in a original picture.

My questions to you are:
Do you still have this portrait?
Is the price of 80 euros still applicable?
Could you explain the word “knapprandig”?
Would it be possible to visit your shop to have a look at the picture?

Thank you very much in advance for your response.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your e-mail. The portrait is still here.

I can give 10%, if you order directly.

“Knapprandig” is with small margins.

I will send a picture by e-mail, so you can see the whole Portrait.

You can visite me, but please phone. I have no shop!

Kind regards
Klaus Harlinghausen

Dear Mr. Harlinghausen,

Thank you very much for your quick response. I am indeed planning to order directly. Including your discount, I think you are offering a reasonable price. It could take me some weeks to find a suitable day to drive to Osnabruck. I will e-mail you in advance.

Kind regards,

Dear Mr. Harlinghausen,

In November 2005 we had e-mail contact about a portrait of by ancestor Johann August von Meyerfeldt (Halbfigur mit Wappen, Kupferstich von C. Fritzsch 1729. 194 x 155, mm.kräftiger Abzug mit Rand, rechts und links knapprandig, item number 6430). I am still interested to buy the picture on your conditions. I hope you still have it.

At last I’m able to drive to Osnabrück. Would it suit you to make an appointment on Saturday 5 August around 11:00 hrs? Could you perhaps repeat your address?

Best wishes,
Hugo von Meijenfeldt

Dear Klaus Harlinghausen,

Thank you very much for the two prints I bought yesterday. I agree with you
that especially the bigger print (Fritsch) looks excellent.

I should have written down the information you gave with regard to the smaller print. According to the information of Alan Nelson (who has an antiquariat in Dorset UK) Johann Christoph Syfang (1703-1757) would be the printer and would have published it between 1780-1790. The years obviously don’t match. I remember you mentioned a second possible printer. Could you inform me about your thoughts about printer and publishing date?

One last question: could you advice me how to conserve the print in the best way? I would like to hang the print on the wall and in order to do so frame it and use a passe-partout. Should I protect the print with (non-shining) glass?

Thank you in advance for your response.

Kind regards,
Hugo von Meijenfeldt

Sehr geehrter Herr van Meijenfeldt!

Just I have sent 3 scans with information about the little portrait of
Meyerfeldt. I also think that this one is made by Bernigeroth and not by
Sysang.

When you will hang the prints at wall, please protect them against light, especially sunlight!

Kind regards
Klaus Harlinghausen

Dear Klaus Harlinghausen,

Thank you very much for your informative answers to my questions.

May I bother you with yet another question? I know there is a third print of my ancestor. The artist is O. Tilas, the year is 1735 and the size 7,3 x 4,4 cm. If you would lay hands of this print, I would be very interested. I enclose a copy of a photo taken by the Kungliga Biblioteket Stockholm (KoB P.3).

Kind regards,
Hugo von Meijenfeldt
