Dear Ms. Ulfsparre,

Your name was given to me by Ms. Stiernswärd of Sövdeborg.

Between 1722 and 1788 the Sövdeborg castle was owned by the Swedish noble family Meijerfeldt. My greatgreatgrandfather Johan August von Meijenfeldt (1760-1835) was a natural son of the last count Johan August von Meijerfeldt (1725-1800). In 1990 I published a book (in the Dutch language) about the Swedish family, after a lot of research in the Kungliga Biblioteket and Riksarkivet in Stockholm. Copies of my book are in their libraries.

Until now I never had the opportunity to visit Sövdeborg, in orde to see the castle and study the Meijerfeldt papers. This summer on 8 August I will arrive in Sövdeborg (together with my son Lester). I am still trying to find a suitable date to visit the castle. Ms. Stiernswärd informed me that you are working on the Sövdeborg papers.

Is there any possibility to meet with you either on Friday 8 August or Monday 11 August and have a look in the Meijerfeldt papers?

Yours sincerely,
Hugo G. von Meijenfeldt

Dear Hugo von Meijenfeldt,

Thank you your mail concerning the Meijerfeldt-papers that are deposited in Landsarkivet as a part of the Sövdeborg manorial archives. The archives have been arranged and an inventory was delivered to Sövdeborg some months ago. The archives are kept in Landsarkivet. I can send you a copy of the 3 sheets of the inventory that concerns the family Meijerfeldt. If you wish it can be faxed to you next week. I will be in Lund on August 11 and we can meet then. The Swedish familyname is Meijerfeldt and not Meijenfeldt.

Sincerely yours,
Anna Christina Ulfsparre

Dear Anna Christina Ulfsparre,

Thank you very much for your quick response to my mail.

I am very glad that the Meijerfeldt-papers as part of the Sövdeborg archives have been arranged and an inventory has been established. I would be most delighted to receive a 3 page fax of the inventory. My fax number is +31 30 225 2981.

I will plan 11 August to visit you in the Landsarkivet (together with my 12-years old son, who speaks and reads English). I believe the archive is open between 9:00 and 16:00 hrs. I am looking forward to this.

I am aware that the spelling of my family name differs from the Swedish spelling. Something went wrong between Stralsund and Amsterdam, because I find the name with and “r” and a “n” in both municipal archives.

In advance I thank you for all the trouble taken.

Kind regards,
Hugo von Meijenfeldt

Dear Anna Christina Ulfsparre,

In June we exchanged e-mails about my ancestors and my visit to the archives in Lund. I have attached our e-mails below. Although I did not receive a response to my last e-mail, I paid a visit to the Landsarkivet on Monday 11 August. I learned that you retired recently from your job. I guess that you didn’t receive my last e-mail. I hope you don’t mind to be approached once more.

The people from the Landsarkivet were extremely helpful. Firstly I was explained to go to the Arkivcentrum Syd, where I studied the Sövdeborg Godsarkiv, part J.3 (Handlingar och räkenskaper ang familjen Meijerfeldt). Most papers concerned his other estates: Bollerup/Glimminge, Visingsö and Näsby. It stroke me that there were not too many papers about Söfdeborg itself, or did I look in the wrong records? I did not go through all 13 files, but selected nrs. 7 and 8, because of their link with the estates in Pomerania. I went through a lot of financial figures. Would you – given your insight in the material – advice to have a look in the other files as well? The next day I visited Mrs. Siv Stiernswärd, who guided me through the castle.

Back in the main reading room, I tried to find some birth/marriage/death data. I was successful in Vittskövle 1721. I was also looking for two brothers Meijerfeldt from Karlskrona 1683, but the films of the records do not start earlier than 1690. Do you know where the original records are kept and whether it is allowed to have a look at them?

I would like to thank you in advance for the trouble taken.

Kind regards,
Hugo von Meijenfeldt

Dear Hugo von Meijerfeldt

I actually went to the archives on Monday Aug 11 and found out that you had been there to look for me. They did not tell me that you went to the depot at Gastlyckan. Sorry about that.

From what I remember there were surprisingly little from Sövdeborg with the exception of correspondence between Christian Ludwig and Hans Rasmusson at Sövdeborg. Papers concerning Sövdeborg in the beginning of the 18th C are archived in serie J 2, papers and accounts concerning the family von Ascheberg.

I can send you copies of that part of the guide.

Best wishes
Anna Christina Ulfsparre
