Dear Ms. Tetteris,
One year ago there was a request to reach out to you in case an ancestor took part in the Battle of Narva. Because I found this request only today, My e-mail is probably too late for your exposition.
My name is Hugo von Meijenfeldt. I am living in Bilthoven, the Netherlands. I am the son in the 7th degree of the Swedish count Johan August von Meijerfeldt (1664-1749), who stood very close to king Carl XII.
Having served in the Netherlands against the French, my ancestor returned to his hometown Riga in Livland after the Peace of Rijswijk (1697). On 2 June 1700 he was “överstelöjtnant för en skvadron värvade ryttare”. Nordberg (part I, page 91) writes that general Vellingk sent him 20 July on a mission, although he uses the first name of his older brother major Carl Fredrik Meijerfeldt (1661-1709).
Under Vellingk Johan August went to Wesenberg in Estland, to join king Carl XII in his march to Narva on 16 November. I have no source, but I assume that he fought with his 100 cavalier squadron on the left wing under Vellingk. His brother major Carl Fredrik stayed in the governors regiment in Riga. Where the third brother Wolmar Johan Meijerfeldt (1667-1739) was at that time is not clear to me.
