Hij studeert rechtsgeleerdheid, in het bijzonder Indonesisch recht, in Leiden. In 1945 vertrek hij naar Indi\u00eb om jurist bij de Krijgsraad te worden. Terug in Nederland wordt hij in 1954 jurist bij De Nederlandsche Bank. <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Voor de bank gaat hij naar het buitenland, om te beginnen Londen (High Gate). Daar trouwt hij in 1958 Carla Emma Maria Pagnier. Zij is geboren in Maastricht op 17 juni 1935. Het echtpaar gaat naar Johannesburg (Lower Houghton), <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Amsterdam en Arnhem aan de Monnikensteeg\u00a0 en de Jan Luijkenlaan in Velp. Het gezin telt vijf kinderen. Herry is jurist en daarna directeur bij de Bank Mees &amp; Hope.
